4 Reasons To Consider Buying Used Parts For Your Car Or Truck

Buying new parts for your car, truck, or SUV is not always simple. Sometimes the part is hard to find, the price high, and the wait too long. Considering good used auto parts is sometimes a better solution and can offer you some benefits you might not have considered.

1. Price of Used Parts

The most common reason people consider used parts is the price of the parts. In many situations, you can buy the part you need from a salvage yard or auto recycler for half the price of a new part. These parts often still have a lot of life left in them, and just because they came off another car does not mean they are not good parts.

Most salvage yards test the parts they sell and give you a pretty good idea of the condition the parts are in. The cost saving is sometimes enough reason to take a chance with the used parts even if it means the part is not going to have a long warranty.

2. Availability of Used Parts

Sometimes finding the right part for your car is difficult, especially if the car is rare or was a limited edition run. The auto parts store may not have the part available, but buying the part used may make it easier to find. In many cases, an auto recycler will have parts from many different years of cars and trucks ready and available for you to purchase.

3. Interchangeability of Used Parts

Used parts offer you the advantage of using interchangeable parts in your car as well as the original parts. If you can't get the starter for your car new, you might find a used one from another car that is the same part number and will fit in the place of the original equipment.

Auto recyclers have guides that will help you determine what other vehicles carry the same part number as the part on your vehicle, and most of them will help you find the alternative part.

4. Fast Turn Around for Used Parts

If you go to the parts store and they don't have the part you need, they may be able to order it for you. But when you need to get the car back up and running, the last thing you want to do is sit around waiting on a part. Buying a used part often gives you the ability to get the part right away because salvage yards tend to have much larger inventories than parts dealers.

The salvage yard often has more room to store parts, and they are constantly bringing in more vehicles to strip and replenish their stock, so getting the part you need, when you need it, is often easier with used parts.
